Alexandria Resident Fined $5,000 For Firing Gun, Hitting Dog in the Head
Though the dog survived, she sustained injuries to her face and nose.
An Alexandria resident has been fined $5,000 by the court for discharging a gun in Old Town and hitting a dog in the head.
WUSA-9 reports that the dog, a 2-year-old female German shepherd, was out for a walk with its owner on Jan. 23 of this year when it was hit in the head with a bullet.
The dog reportedly sustained tissue damage to its nose and a laceration on its face.

The shooter was caught, though his or her identity was not reported.
The shooter was charged with animal cruelty, illegal discharge of a firearm and brandishing a firearm within the city limits. The Alexandria Circuit Court dismissed the charge of brandishing a firearm but the other two charges stuck.

Though the Commonwealth Attorney's Office requested jailtime, the Court instead chose to impose a $2,500 for each of the two offenses the person was found guilty of.
