Alexandria City Public Schools opened on time Tuesday, Jan. 7 but will close two hours early due to anticipated snow. City of Alexandria government offices and non-emergency facilities will close at 2 p.m.

Non-emergency personnel employed by the city may take unscheduled leave between 11:15 a.m. and 2 p.m. with supervisor approval. Emergency personnel should report as scheduled. Libraries are closing at 2 p.m., and all activities after that time are cancelled.

For ACPS, after-school activities are cancelled. Morning preschool was dismissed at 11 a.m., while afternoon preschool is cancelled. No make-up classes are required for early closings, but make-up classes may be required for the afternoon preschool.

Non-administrative licensed staff and paraprofessionals are released at the principal's discretion once students have been dismissed and buses have departed. Night personnel must report at regular time or take leave with supervisor's approval unless otherwise instructed. Bus drivers and bus monitors report two hours earlier than regular time for afternoon runs. Essential personnel will follow a regular schedule.

The early dismissal comes as the National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for Northern Virginia, calling for 1 to 3 inches of snow in some parts. Forecasters expect the most snowfall Tuesday afternoon into the early evening.
