Alexandria's 2019 Holiday Tree Lighting Date Set
The city will move the tree lighting to a date before Thanksgiving this year.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — The lighting of the Christmas tree at Market Square will kick off the holiday season in Alexandria. The tree lighting ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 23 at 6 p.m.
The tree lighting usually takes place after Thanksgiving. Because Thanksgiving falls within the last week of November, this year’s event will take place the weekend before the holiday.
Mayor Justin Wilson will be present for the ceremony. The Town Crier will ask everyone to gather around the tree, where the Metropolitan School of the Arts will perform "Santa’s Spectacular," and the T.C. Williams High School Advanced Choir will perform holiday music. Spectators can join the countdown to lighting of the tree and afterward take pictures with Santa and Mrs. Claus. The event is free and will happen rain or shine.
