Alexandria's Birthday, 4th Of July Fireworks: 2020 Alternative

A virtual alternative has been announced for Alexandria's annual birthday and Fourth of July celebration.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — July 4 events across the country will not look the same this year thanks to the coronavirus. Many cities and towns have been forced to cancel the annual Fourth of July events, including Alexandria. Although Alexandria's annual Birthday Celebration and fireworks on July 11 won't happen in person, there will be ways to celebrate at home.

Virtual performances and a sing-a-long will be held at 7 p.m. on July 11. The Alexandria Symphony Orchestra and the Navy Commodores will return to perform tunes. There will also be a poem written for the occasion by Alexandria Poet Laureate KaNikki Jakarta and a "Happy Birthday" led by local singer Lea.

Residents are invited to sing "Happy Birthday" to Alexandria at 7 p.m. at their porches, stoops, balconies or windows.
