Athenaeum Wins Contest Participation Prize

The historic site in Old Town Alexandria was competing for grants from Partners in Preservation.

The Athenaeum waged a noble effort but was not the top winner in the Partners in Preservation grant competition. It did win a $5,000 prize for participation.

The Athenaeum was competing with 24 other historic sites in Washington, DC and its suburbs.

of the popular vote. The cathedral will receive a $100,000 grant that will go toward restoring two bays of the vaulted ceiling inside the nave. Once complete, the cathedral will be able to remove the netting that has shrouded the building’s interior since the August 2011 earthquake.
