The city cautions that prolonged exposure to high temperatures and humidity can lead to heat-related illnesses like heat exhaustion or cramps — and heat stroke in severe cases. To identify signs of heat stroke, heat exhaustion and heat cramps and what to do in those situations, consult this guide from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The NWS advises residents to drink plenty of fluids, wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing, stay in air conditioning, avoid the sun, hold off strenuous activities until the early morning or evening, avoid leaving pets and children in hot cars, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
