DASH Bus To Remain Fare Free When Metrobus Resumes Fares
As other regional bus systems resume fare collection, DASH is keeping buses free until further notice.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — With other regional bus systems preparing to resume fare collection in early January, Alexandria's DASH Bus will remain fare free.
DASH Bus will remain free to riders until further notice. Riders should use the rear door, but those who need the ramp/kneeling function to board the bus may use the front door.
Metrobus and Arlington Transit plan to resume fare collection and front door boarding on Jan. 3, and Fairfax Connector will do the same on Jan. 4.

Fare collection is not expected to resume until barriers between drivers and passengers are complete. DASH is in the process of installing the barriers on all DASH buses to reduce the risk of spreading COVID-19 around fare boxes.
DASH said in a statement officials are monitoring COVID-19 information, mitigation strategies, and policies of regional transit.

"We are monitoring case numbers and infection rates and may adjust service or policies to respond to emerging public health trends," read the DASH statement. "Additionally, we are following the advice of state and city health officials whenever applicable. As DASH continuously monitors the policies of our regional transit partners to provide the most uniform service for our passengers as possible, we may adjust our policies and procedures to combat COVID-19 as necessary."
