Feedback Sought For Roadway Changes On These Alexandria Streets
The City of Alexandria will look for changes to be implemented when the roads are repaved.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Six streets are scheduled to be repaved during the 2021 fiscal year in Alexandria, and the city is seeking feedback on whether changes are needed. According to a city news release, the upgrades would be focused on "improving safety, access, and mobility" for all users of a roadway.
The six streets being evaluated for changes are:
- Alfred Street (First Street to Church Street), Old Town
- Cameron Mills Road (Virginia Avenue to Allison Street), North Ridge
- Morgan Street (North Chambliss Street to the cul-de-sac), West End
- Rayburn Avenue (North Beauregard Street to Reading Avenue), West End
- Reading Avenue (Rayburn Avenue to North Beauregard Street), West End
- West Street (Duke Street to Wythe Street), Old Town
The projects will be prioritized based on the repaving schedule, as well as available funding, safety and other factors. Examples of changes that could be considered are additions or upgrades of curb ramps, additions or upgrades of pedestrian crosswalks, roadway signage, bike lanes or shared-lane markings, speed cushions or other traffic calming devices, parking changes, lane striping changes and minor signal timing changes.

A survey on the six streets scheduled for repaving is open through the end of Friday, Feb. 7. A summary of results will be available in the spring.
One recent repaving project has drawn backlash from some residents. In late 2019, a 0.9 mile portion of Seminary Road was repaved to one through-lane in each direction, a center left-turn lane and a bike lane in each direction after a City Council decision. The change prompted opposed residents to create the Alexandria Residents Against the Seminary Road Diet with regular conversations about the traffic impacts.
