Find Cheapest Gas In Alexandria For Labor Day Weekend Travel

ALEXANDRIA, VA — If you're hitting the road Labor Day weekend, you're in luck. According to a new AAA report, gas prices nationwide are at a three-year low this holiday weekend.

"For Americans who bookend summer with road trips, they will find gas prices this coming weekend that are cheaper than this past Memorial Day and last year's Labor Day holiday," said AAA spokeswoman Jeanette Casselano. "At the start of the week, two-thirds of all states have gas price averages that are nearly a quarter cheaper than last year."

Right now, the national gas price average is $2.58. That's 25 cents cheaper than last year's holiday weekend ($2.83) and five cents cheaper than it was in 2017 ($2.63), according to AAA.

In Virginia, the average gas price is $2.321 as compared to $2.591 this time last year. For the Northern Virginia region only, it's $2.456 compared to $2.718 in 2018.

Out of all Northern Virginia counties, Fairfax County and Alexandria will pay the most at the pump. According to AAA, the average prices for these places are around $2.59.

With that consideration, you'll want to know where to fill up for the lowest price. AAA Mid-Atlantic's Fuel Price Finder identified the cheapest gas prices as of Friday afternoon:

• Shell: 801 N WASHINGTON ST Alexandria , VA: $2.379
• Liberty: 4368 KING ST Alexandria , VA: $2.379
• Speedway, 4808 KING ST Alexandria, VA: $2.379
• Exxon, 501 S WASHINGTON ST Alexandria , VA: $2.399
• Exxon, 2838 DUKE ST Alexandria , VA: $2.399
• Shell, 2922 DUKE ST Alexandria , VA: $2.399
