Food Concepts, Coworking Space Coming To Alexandria Building

Del Ray's Stomping Ground will be involved with the food market and restaurant opening at the Atrium Building.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — A food market, restaurant and coworking location will open at Old Town Alexandria's Atrium Building.

W.C. & A.N. Miller Development Company and Avison Young announced the new leases for 277 South Washington Street on Monday, According to a news release, ALX Community, Mae's Market & Café and Virginia's Darling Restaurant will open in the coming months.

The food concepts will come from Stomping Ground, a Del Ray restaurant specializing in biscuits. Mae's Market & Café will be an all-day food market and will open in February. Virginia's Darling Restaurant is expected to open at the end of 2021.

ALX Community, branching out from other locations in Old Town, will open in a 15,000-square-foot location in fall 2021.

"The timing of the location's opening — as well as The Atrium Building itself — should be ideal for the ALX Community," said Scott Shaw, co-founder of ALX Community, in a statement. "Fall 2021 puts us on the other side of the pandemic, which is a plus. And we think The Atrium Building's size, amenities and location are a winning combination for companies that have been waiting to make a move."

The restaurant, food market and coworking space will come as the office building undergoes a major repositioning, which includes over $5 million in planned renovations. New amenities will include multiple huddle areas in the atrium lobby, a golf-simulator, showers, lockers, secured bike room, and a 4,500-square-foot penthouse-level rooftop turned into a modern conference center. The five-story building currently has three floors available for lease.

One of the previous tenants was the food emporium Society Fair, which closed in 2019.
