Gale Warning in Effect for Potomac Wednesday, Thursday

ALEXANDRIA, VA -- The National Weather Service on Wednesday has issued a Gale Warning for the Potomac River. The Gale Warning is in effect Wednesday and continues until Thursday at 12 noon, according to the weather service.

Weather services issue a gale warning for maritime locations currently or imminently experiencing winds of Gale Force on the Beaufort scale. Wind speeds were clocked at about 39 MPH Wednesday in Alexandria.

• Wednesday: Scattered rain and snow showers. Mostly sunny, with a high near 50. Northwest wind around 17 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
• Wednesday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 30. Northwest wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph.
• Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 41. Northwest wind 10 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph.
• Thursday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 27. Northwest wind 6 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.
• Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 47. West wind 5 to 7 mph.
• Friday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 34.
• Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 60.
• Saturday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 44.
• Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 64.
