Gunshots Incident In Alexandria Leads To Pursuit By State Police

State police did not report any injuries but found a shell casing on King Street.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Virginia State Police say a woman involved in a gunshots incident in Old Town Alexandria was taken into custody Wednesday.

Around 3:09 p.m., a special agent in the area of King Street near the Alexandria Courthouse heard a gun being fired. State police say the woman was seen with a gun walking toward an SUV and fled in the vehicle.

The special agent followed the SUV, and a state trooper responded to assist. As the suspect vehicle headed on the George Washington Memorial Parkway toward DC, the state trooper activated his emergency lights and siren to pull the vehicle over. The SUV pulled over on the parkway shoulder inside DC between the 14th Street Bridge and Key Bridge, and the 46-year-old Maryland woman was taken into custody. Custody was transferred to U.S. Park Police, who have jurisdiction on the parkway.

Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation's Fairfax Field Office continues to investigate the shooting. State police found a shell casing on King Street and clarified that the incident did not occur on courthouse property. There were no initial injury reports. Alexandria Police had closed the 600 block of King Street during the state police investigation.
