Hazardous Weather Outlook Posted For NoVA, DC

Damaging winds are possible Tuesday in DC and NoVA, where there is a slight risk of a tornado, according to the National Weather Service.

WASHINGTON, DC — Severe thunderstorms that will bring a risk of a tornado are possible Tuesday afternoon and evening in northern Virginia and the District of Columbia, according to the National Weather Service. They agency hasissued a hazardous weather outlook for parts of the state.

Rain is expected to begin after 4 p.m., and there may be isolated severe thunderstorms. Damaging winds are the main threat associated with the storms, according to the weather service, which advised the greatest threats are near the Maryland-Pennsylvania line and in western Maryland.

The hazardous weather outlook includes these communities: Washington DC, Fairfax, Arlington, Falls Church, Alexandria, Stafford, Spotsylvania, Fauquier, and Loudoun.

The hazardous weather outlook also applies to eastern West Virginia and northern and central Virginia.

Officials say there is also a slight threat of a winter storm Friday night along the Allegany Front in western Maryland as well as eastern West Virginia and far western Virginia. If it comes to fruition, the winter weather could impact travel.

Here is the Baltimore-Washington forecast, according to the National Weather Service:

Tuesday: Showers likely before 3pm, then isolated showers after 5pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 66. South wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Tuesday Night: Scattered showers, mainly before 9pm. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear, with a low around 43. West wind 10 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 60. West wind 9 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph.

Wednesday Night: Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming clear, with a low around 37. Northwest wind 6 to 8 mph.

Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 54. Northwest wind around 6 mph becoming calm.

Thursday Night: A slight chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 39. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Friday: A chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 48. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Friday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 34.

Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 48.

Saturday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 30.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 60.
