Local Church To Serve Thanksgiving Meal For Less Fortunate

Up to 75 guests will be served a home-cooked Thanksgiving meal at Christ House in Alexandria.

ARLINGTON, VA – While many of us celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday with family, others simply have no one to spend it with – much less a home-cooked Thanksgiving meal with all the trimmings to enjoy. That’s why for more than 20 years, Christ House in Alexandria has been serving a Thanksgiving dinner to the poor. This Thursday, November 24, 2016, at 1 p.m., Bishop Paul S. Loverde will be at Christ House giving them his blessing, joining them in prayer and song, and serving their meals.

Up to 75 guests will receive a free meal, prepared by a professional chef who’s been cooking Thanksgiving at Christ House for 21 years.

“Keep the Christ House staff and volunteers in your prayers who turn the Thanksgiving holiday into a merciful holy day,” says Art Bennett, President and CEO of Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Arlington. This will be Bishop Loverde’s last year serving at Christ House as Bishop of the Diocese of Arlington. He retires next month. “And let us continue to pray with thanks for the leadership and generosity of Bishop Loverde,” adds Bennett.

Food is set to dish on Thursday, November 24 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m at Christ House, 131 S. West St.
