Local Company Takes New Approach To Put The Homeowner First
In an industry where hidden fees, down payments, cost overruns, and delayed timelines are standard- one company takes a different approach.

A recent survey by Porch.com says that more than three-quarters of all U.S. homeowners completed a home renovation project during the pandemic. While demand for renovation contractors is at an all time high, it’s no secret that the industry is still laden with stereotypes that discourage many homeowners from starting a new project.
With all the surprises the remodeling process can throw at a homeowner, the last thing a consumer wants to experience is increases in budget and timeline. Unfortunately, the industry still leverages many outdated practices which negatively affect the consumer. This is the reason Remodelmate was founded in 2018- to be a renovation company that puts consumer interests first.

It’s understandable that hidden fees are the biggest gripe of the consumer. As an example, it is common to partner with a contractor and receive three to four “surprise” fees before the remodel is complete. According to Remodelmate’s CEO Chad Hall, “We believe transparency is key. Our prices are online and available to all.”
If you’ve hired any contractor to do work in or on your home in the past, it’s likely that you were required to make a down payment of 25-50% before any work began. This can put the homeowner at a disadvantage- they have now committed to the contractor with little recourse to ensure quality or timeliness of the work. Remodelmate utilizes what they call “milestone” payments. At each project milestone (e.g. demolition), the homeowner reviews the work and signs off on it as appropriate, only then is payment charged to their credit card. Mark L, a recent customer in Washington, DC said, “[Remodelmate] offered a milestone-based billing system that required payment only after I verified each task was complete. They even accepted credit cards, so I picked up a fair number of Amex points.”

Perhaps the most notable solution is one that tackles both cost overruns and delayed timelines- the Remodelmate Concierge. The company has introduced this dedicated project manager to each of its renovation projects. The Concierge is assigned when a project is booked to oversee material orders, contractor booking, permit requirements, construction progress, and any issues that may pop up along the way. It appears the Concierge takes care of all the details, so the homeowner doesn’t have to. Lauren M. in DC said, “I wanted to remodel... for over a year, but I regularly became discouraged by choosing the right tile, figuring out the pricing, finding quality contractors in my budget, general red tape, and my lack of understanding about the renovation process. Remodelmate provided me with the support, structure, and reliability I needed to get moving on my project. I absolutely loved the concierge service.”
