Outages Hit Areas Of Alexandria During Thunderstorm
After days of storms, Wednesday's thunderstorm brought widespread outages to the region.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Alexandria and the rest of the region has seen days of scorching temperatures and thunderstorms, and Wednesday was no different. Severe thunderstorms rumbled through the region Wednesday afternoon, bringing rain, lightning and power outages.
Dominion Energy has reported over 52,000 outages in Virginia on Wednesday evening, some of which are in areas of Alexandria. According to Dominion Energy's outage map, over 4,320 lost power in a large portion of the city. Over 1,500 customers are out in Old Town north of King Street, and over 500 are out between Russell Road, Braddock Road and the Metro tracks.

Alexandria is under a flash flood warning until 6:30 p.m. The National Weather Service said as of 3:30 p.m., thunderstorms were producing heavy rain the region. The severe thunderstorm warning for the area expired at 4:15 p.m. Alexandria Police urged residents to avoid low-lying areas that can flood and to not walk or drive into standing water.
