Portside In Old Town Fall Festival: Details For 2019 Event

Head to Waterfront Park for the free festival this weekend in Alexandria.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — The Portside in Old Town event series continues with a Fall Festival on Saturday, Oct. 12 from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Waterfront Park.

Guests can expect boat-related demonstrations, maritime history, live music, children's activities and food. Alexandria Seaport Foundation will host boat displays and a boat-building demonstration, while the Office of Historic Alexandria will have activities related to shoreline engineering, ship mapping and 18th century rope making. At 2:30 p.m., the Alexandria Seaport Foundation will hold the Anything that Floats Race, which puts marine engineering and design skills to the test for a Potomac River race.

The Tall Ship Providence team will have a knot tying activity. The tall ship is currently docked in Alexandria but isn't expected to open until late fall. Other activities will include boat making and painting, splash golf and lawn games. Fees may be required for some activities.

Food and drink vendors will include Port City Brewing Co., Riverside Taco Company, The Italian Place, Red Hook Lobster Pound food truck and Dolci Gelati. Riverside Taco Company will donate 10 percent of the day's sales to the Alexandria Seaport Foundation, which provides career and life-building skills to youth through an apprentice program.

Live music will be provided by DJ Kat from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., The DCeivers from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and Sol Roots from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The Portside in Old Town Festival is held by Visit Alexandria in collaboration with the Alexandria Seaport Foundation and Office of Historic Alexandria as part of the King Street Corridor Initiative.
