Potomac Nationals Consider Alexandria For Relocation

The Washington Nationals' minor league team is open to looking at Alexandria for its next home.

ALEXANDRIA, VA—As the Potomac Nationals' negotiations with Prince William have come to a standstill, the city of Alexandria is looking like an option to home the minor league baseball team.

Vice Mayor Justin Wilson told Washington Business Journal he directed city staff to look into bringing the Washington Nationals' minor league affiliate to the city. The team played in the city as the Alexandria Dukes from 1978 to 1983. They have played at Pfitzner Stadium in Woodbridge since 1984.

“We’d be delighted to talk to the city of Alexandria,” Potomac Nationals owner Art Silber told the Business Journal. "Certainly in terms of population density and the type of community, it is an attractive location for a stadium. But I don’t know where it would be. It’s certainly something we want to explore.” (Sign up for real time alerts and a newsletter. iPhone users can download the Patch app in the App Store. Silber said he wants to keep the minor league team in Northern Virginia. He says there's been interest from different parts of Northern Virginia, as well as from two buyers in other states.
