ALEXANDRIA, VA — A luxury condominium development on the waterfront in Old Town North is scheduled to deliver by the end of 2021, and its sales center has opened.

The eight-story Muse condominium will feature 73 units at 1201 Royal Street. Choices include 29 unique floor plans ranging from one bedroom to two bedroom with a den. Ten of the floor plans have spacious outdoor terraces, and the largest penthouse residences are 2,200 square feet. Prices start in the $800,000s.

Units feature floor-to-ceiling energy-efficient windows, Snaidero European flat-panel cabinetry, quartz countertops, and concealed appliances. The community amenities include a penthouse lounge, indoor-outdoor fitness center, rooftop terrace with fire pits and grilling stations, and "white glove service" with a 24-hour concierge and dedicated porter.

Aside from residences, Muse will feature a 5,700-square-foot arts space for the The Art League and an outdoor arts walk with seating, lighting, and display space. These features will be part of a newly created Alexandria Arts District.

The development is taking the place of the former MetroStage space. MetroStage, a nonprofit theater company, is constructing a new theater 901 North Fairfax Street, a former site of the Crowne Plaza Hotel and future home to condos.

Located along the Mount Vernon Trail, Muse will also feature a linear park to expand the green space from the trail.

The Muse sales gallery is now open at 1199 North Fairfax Street. Prospective buyers can schedule appointments to visit the sales gallery with hard-hat tours.

The Old Town North area has seen a number of development activities and planning. The Potomac River Generating Site power plant decommissioned in 2012 is envisioned to be redeveloped by new owner Hilco Redevelopment Partners, while The Gables Old Town North and Edens mixed-use development on Montgomery Street is already open and adding retailers, including St. Elmo's Coffee Pub and Loyal Companion in 2021. Muse developer Carr Companies is also developing a neighboring new condominium called Venue.

"With two condominium communities under construction just a few blocks apart and several other properties nearby, we continue to look for opportunities to grow in the Old Town North Arts District," said Carr Companies President and CEO Austin Flajser. "We see tremendous potential in the neighborhood’s vibrant waterfront urban-suburban setting, which has fared exceptionally well during the pandemic and is poised to continue its growth in the coming years."
