Scottish Christmas Walk Weekend 2019: Parade Route, Schedule

ALEXANDRIA, VA — The most anticipated holiday weekend in Alexandria is almost here. The 49th annual Scottish Christmas Walk Weekend and Parade return Dec. 6 and 7, followed by the Holiday Boat Parade of Lights on Saturday evening and Del Ray Holiday Season Kick-Off on Sunday, Dec. 8.

The Scottish Christmas Walk Weekend is a series of holiday events celebrating Alexandria's Scottish roots and benefiting The Campagna Center's programs for children and families. The highlights of the weekend include the Scottish Christmas Walk Parade, Heather and Greens Sales, Taste of Scotland and Holiday Homes Tour.

Below is the full schedule for the parade and other events.

Scottish Christmas Walk Parade: Saturday, Dec. 7, 11 a.m.

Location: Old Town Alexandria

Spectators are dazzled by Scottish clans, bagpipes and drums, dancers, reenactment groups, Scottie dogs, dignitarties, classic cars, Santa Claus and more. The parade starts on St. Asaph Street at Wolfe Street, turns right on Queen Street, right on North Fairfax Street and concludes on King Street at Market Square. A massed band concert takes place at Market Square at the end. The parade happens rain or shine.

Heather and Greens Sales: Dec. 6 and 7, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

Location: The Campagna Center, 418 S. Washington Street, Alexandria

Shop for wreaths, garlands, and fresh heather bundles to decorate for the holiday season. Proceeds benefit the programs of the Campagna Center that serve over 2,000 Alexandria children and families daily. Pre-orders and walk-up sales are available.

Taste of Scotland: Friday, Dec. 6, 6:30 p.m.-10 p.m.

Location: The Atrium Building, 277 South Washington Street, Alexandria, VA 22314

This tasting event features a variety of Scotches direct from Scotland distilleries, Scottish ale sampling, as well as beer, wine, and food. Proceeds benefit the Campagna Center's programs. This event has sold out.

Holiday Homes Tour: Saturday, Dec. 7, 12:30 p.m.-4 p.m.

Location: Old Town Alexandria

This tour gives you a rare glimpse into some of Old Town's homes decorated for the holidays by interior designers and local florists. Arm-carried children under 2 years are permitted on the tour and do not require a ticket. Strollers and carriers are not allowed inside the homes. Proceeds benefit the Campagna Center's programs. Tickets purchased after Nov. 22 can be picked up at the first tour stop.
