Gunshots Call In Alexandria Leads To Arrests, Death Amid Pursuit
A driver died after being taken into custody during a pursuit into southeast DC.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — A driver died during a pursuit and three people were arrested and charged following a report of gunshots in Alexandria, according to police.
Police responded to a report of shots fired around 8:40 p.m. in the 800 block of North Patrick Street. Shell casings and evidence of several homes and vehicles being struck were found on scene, according to police.
Police located a suspect vehicle with four people, which then fled from the scene. A pursuit ensued and ended shortly after 9 p.m. when the suspect vehicle crashed on Interstate 295 above Malcolm X Avenue SE in southeast DC.

The driver fled from the vehicle and jumped over the jersey barrier on the overpass, landing below on Malcolm X Avenue SE. A U.S. Park Police officer attempted to take the driver into custody using an Electronic Control Device. Several Alexandria Police officers helped to take the driver into custody. Police say the driver was conscious and breathing when an ambulance arrived but lost consciousness in the DC Fire & EMS ambulance. The driver was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Three people were charged in relation to the shots fired incident, but the suspects' names have not been released. There were no immediate reports of injuries from the gunshot incidents.

Police continue to investigate the incident with the Metropolitan Police Department and U.S. Park Police. The Metropolitan Police Department is handling the death investigation.
