Street Resurfacing Set To Resume In Alexandria

The city has identified five streets that crews will tackle in the first two weeks of repaving.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Resurfacing of streets in Alexandria is set to begin on Monday, July 29. The streets undergoing work will be completely repaved, and street asphalt will be replaced from curb to curb.

Each year, around 50 of Alexandria's 560 lane miles are resurfaced. The city uses a pavement condition index to prioritize streets for repaving based on condition, while also factoring in volume and type of traffic, planned utility work and cost.

Five streets will be the focus of the first two weeks of repaving:

Crews usually work on street repaving between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., although some work could happen overnight when dealing with heavily-traveled roads. Residents should take note of "no parking signs" and anticipate equipment being noisy at times. Access to the impacted street will be limited, but residents will have driveway access. Roads will be reopened for overnight parking and traffic.

Repaving begins over the summer and continues into the fall. After a break for the winter, it will resume in the spring.
