ALEXANDRIA, VA (March 12, 2020) – The Campagna Center submitted plans to better align our capacity with our mission by renovating and expanding our current location. Over the past two years, our organization explored several possibilities – including the sale of our current building and the purchase of a new one. We have since concluded that investing in major repairs and renovations is the best way to responsibly and purposefully build for the future.
Our location at 418 S. Washington Street has been home to The Campagna Center since 1981, when we were known as the Community Y. In 1990, the organization changed its name to The Campagna Center to honor its beloved Executive Director, Elizabeth Anne Campagna. For 75 years, The Campagna Center has equipped children and families with a comprehensive set of tools they need to thrive and succeed.

Our current home in Alexandria’s historic district was built in 1888 and last renovated in 1993. The reality of an aging building with no dedicated program space has hindered our ability to deliver on our mission to the fullest.
These renovations will afford The Campagna Center a dedicated floor for program services – including a welcome center for participants, updated HVAC and major mechanical systems, space to accommodate teleworking, training for staff, and other uses consistent with our mission. The Campagna Center is excited about this opportunity to remain in historic Alexandria as we address the needs of our growing program and continue to provide support within the community.
At this time The Campagna Center is intently focused on doing its part to reduce community spread of Coronavirus.
