Trivia, Port City Brew and the March on Washington

Here are 5 Things for Wednesday, Aug. 28 in and around Old Town Alexandria:

Just a Taste — The tasting room at Port City Brewing Company (3905 Wheeler Ave.) is open from 5 to 8 p.m. Fill up your growler or sample some of the selections. The pineapple out front means business.

Open Mic Night — Did you know your neighbor can play a mean guitar? Find out at 8:30 tonight at 219 Restaurant (219 King St.) for open mic night. 

Trivia — T.J. Stones (608 Montgomery St.) hosts trivia night beginning at 6:30 p.m. Check out the beer list. Trust me. If you’re looking to stay up a little later, trivia begins at 9 p.m. at O’Connell’s (112 King St.).

March on Washington Anniversary — Today marks the 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his “I Have a Dream” speech on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. Check out this story from last week about two Alexandrians who were there. 

Restaurant Week — This citywide event offers up many dining opportunities through Sunday, Sept. 1. Participating restaurants serve a $35 dinner for two or a $35 three-course fixed-price meal. See the restaurant week website for more information on participating restaurants.
