Although in-person festivities are canceled, the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra and the Navy Commodores return to perform.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — The City of Alexandria has announced details for the virtual July 11 Alexandria and USA Birthday celebration.
Alexandria's fireworks are typically held after July 4, combining celebrations of Alexandria and the USA birthdays. But the fireworks, cake and other in-person festivities were canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
As promised by the city, residents can mark the occasion of Alexandria’s 271st birthday and the USA’s 244th birthday online. Virtual performances and a sing-a-long will be held at 7 p.m. on July 11.

"This year, we’ll miss the fireworks and birthday cake, but we can still celebrate our community together while staying safe," said Mayor Justin Wilson in a statement. "I invite everyone, especially those who haven’t experienced this event in the past, to join us as we celebrate our city and our nation."
The Alexandria Symphony Orchestra and the Navy Commodores will return to perform tunes. There will also be a poem written for the occasion by Alexandria Poet Laureate KaNikki Jakarta and a "Happy Birthday" led by local singer Lea.
