Volunteers are at the heart of the mission and work of United Community (formerly UCM). Our community's generous involvement helps us ensure that struggling families and youth have an opportunity to achieve stability and thrive to break the cycle of poverty.

We are fortunate and grateful to have hundreds of dedicated, talented volunteers of all ages. However, we are always in need of new energy and talents like yours! We offer volunteer short- and long-term experiences for both individuals and groups seeking community service projects.

About United Community: Our mission is to empower our neighbors in need to transform their lives. Founded in 1969, we are a community-based nonprofit offering comprehensive programs and services for vulnerable children, youth, and families in Southeastern Fairfax County (south of Old Town Alexandria). In May 2019, we changed our name and look to United Community.

We provide a vital connection between people in need and people -- like you -- committed to helping them thrive. Our services include counseling and referrals, emergency assistance, supplemental food at our client-choice food pantry, early care and learning center (ages infant to pre-K), after-school programs at neighborhood community center, ESL and citizenship classes, and community leadership development.
