Water Main Break Repaired On King Street In Old Town
One block of King Street was closed Thursday in Old Town as a crew repaired a 12-inch water main that ruptured.

Update — A block of King Street in Old Town was reopened Thursday after a water company crew repaired a water main break, according to Ray Evans, a spokeswoman with the Alexandria Fire Department.
Water service to 13 customers around the 200 block of King Street was restored after a crew from the Virginia American Water Company fixed a 12-inch pipe that was leaking water onto King Street, Evans said. The street was closed all day on Thursday as a crew worked on the pipe.
ALEXANDRIA, VA — Water company crews are working to repair a water main break that closed down a block of King Street in the heart of Old Town, according to the Alexandria Fire Department. Early Thursday morning, the Alexandria police closed down the 200 block of King Street between North Fairfax Street and North Lee Street, telling motorists to take alternative routes.

As of 4:30 p.m. Thursday, the crew from the Virginia American Water Company was still at the scene, working on the 12-inch pipe, said Ray Evans, a spokeswoman for the Alexandria Fire Department.
The 200 block of King Street remained closed Thursday afternoon, and the Fire Department did not know when it would be reopened, Evans said. Water flowed over a sidewalk at a spot about one block from the Torpedo Factory, in the middle of Old Town's tourist district.

The water main break affected 13 customers in Old Town, who either had their water cut off or got low pressure, according to Virginia American.
