Waterfront Forum, College Night and the Alexandria Film Festival

Waterfront Forum — Alexandria is hosting its second in a series of community meetings to discuss the landscape and flood mitigation design aspects of its waterfront redevelopment plan from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 4 at T.C. Williams High School (3330 King St.).

The Olin Studio, the landscape architectural firm the city hired for the waterfront plan, will provide detailed information on the design process. The meeting will also serve as a forum to share ideas about the public space elements of the plan, the use of those public spaces, and ways to incorporate art, history and lighting design into the plan.

Election Day — Statewide and local races are on the ballot Tuesday, Nov. 5. Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Check out Patch’s Election Day Q&A for information on the candidates, where to vote and more. 

College Night — Join other ACPS middle and high school students and their parents for College Night Virginia—a free, college-planning event being held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6 at T.C. Williams High School (3330 King St.). Attendees can get answers to questions about college admissions, the financial aid process and scholarships.  The event will start with a free pizza dinner in the cafeteria at 6:30 p.m. Four $500 scholarships and other prizes will also be available.

Alexandria Film Festival — The 2013 Alexandria Film Festival kicks off Thursday, Nov. 7 and runs through Sunday, Nov. 10 at venues across the city. You can find information on more than 60 participating films and show times on the festival’s website. Past Alexandria Film Festival participants include 2013 Academy Award winners Sean Fine and Andrea Nix Fine.

Delbert McClinton — This Texas Heritage Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee brings his country and blues tunes to the Birchmere (3701 Mount Vernon Ave.) for a 7:30 p.m. show with Teresa James on Thursday, Nov. 7. Tickets are $45. More information on the Birchmere website.
