ALEXANDRIA, VA — Presidents Day will be Monday, Feb. 17, and a variety of services will be closed in Alexandria on the day.

The holiday, which was originally established in 1885 to honor President George Washington, will provide a much-appreciated three-day weekend for many. But it also means that services such as the U.S. Post Office, libraries and public schools will not open on the day.

George Washington's birthday gets celebrated in a big way in his adopted hometown of Alexandria. Locals can find plenty of celebration events surrounding the holiday, including Monday's George Washington Birthday Parade. In addition, admission to George Washington's Mount Vernon is free on Presidents Day (Feb. 17) and Washington's true birthday (Feb. 22).
