ALEXANDRIA, VA — Alexandria's 272nd birthday and the USA’s 245th birthday will be celebrated in conjunction Saturday, July 10 with fireworks and other festivities. The celebration will be available to view virtually or in person.

Festivities begin at 8:45 p.m. with an opening by the Town Crier, a welcome from Mayor Justin Wilson, a poetry reading by Poet Laureate KaNikki Jakarta, and performance from the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra. The grand finale fireworks display will follow.

This year's event will also not include food vendors, distribution of birthday cake, or cannon support from the 3d United States Infantry Regiment. The city is encouraging people to view the fireworks from various locations to reduce crowds due to COVID-19. While the celebration is typically concentrated on Oronoco Bay Park, this year's fireworks are positioned so they can be viewed from multiple vantage points along the Potomac River waterfront from Canal Center Plaza to Jones Point Park. The full program will also be broadcast virtually at alexandriava.gov.
