'Wonder Woman 1984' Prop, Promotions Featured In Alexandria
Alexandria is celebrating the movie release due to Landmark Mall being featured as a filming location.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — As viewers across the nation watch "Wonder Woman 1984" at home or in theaters, Alexandria is celebrating its cameo in the movie. A prop from the movie will go on display in Old Town, and there will also be a self-guided tour of TV and movie sites and well as Wonder Woman-themed business offerings.
The movie, which was released in theaters and on HBO Max on Christmas Day, features Alexandria's now-shuttered Landmark Mall, as the film takes place in the 1980s. Locals will see other DC sites in the film as well.
For the Landmark Mall scene, the Virginia Film Office worked with Warner Bros. to include a seven-foot-tall drum prop with the Virginia is for Lovers logo. Warner Bros. also created a promotional video for Virginia Tourism showing set piece in action, and star Gal Gadot and director Patty Jenkins spoke about their time in Virginia.

"Having a colossal film like Wonder Woman 1984 shoot in the Commonwealth was a huge financial win – the project had a total economic impact of over $45 million during their relatively brief time on the ground," said Virginia Film Office director Andy Edmunds in a statement. "Having millions of audience members now see the iconic Virginia is for Lovers logo up on both the large and small screens provides immeasurable brand visibility that will have a positive effect for years to come."
The seven-foot-tall drum prop will be featured in a window display at 101 North Union Street from Jan. 7 to Feb. 28. Visitors can view the display outdoors and learn about Landmark Mall being used as a filming location.
