Zero New COVID-19 Cases Reported In Alexandria
Alexandria's COVID-19 cases are considerably lower than the month prior, while nearly half of residents 12 and up are partially vaccinated.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — For the first time in 2021, no daily COVID-19 cases were reported in Alexandria. Virginia Department of Health data showed no new cases on Tuesday for the city.
There have only been a few days with zero new cases since the pandemic began in spring 2020. The last time no cases were reported was Dec. 26, plausibly due to nothing being reported from Christmas Day.
Now Alexandria and Virginia's cases are on a downtrend. The city's seven-day average of daily cases is 5.71, down from 26.29 a month ago on April 18. The positive average of PCR tests is 2.6 percent, a lower average than any previous month of the pandemic.

New hospitalizations and deaths are only reported on occasional days, according to VDH data. Alexandria's last hospitalization was reported on May 12, and the last death was reported on May 13.
Virginia's improving health metrics, new CDC guidance and increasing vaccination numbers led Gov. Ralph Northam to lift the mask mandate for fully vaccinated people in most situations on May 15 and lift all capacity and social distancing restrictions on May 28. Alexandria City Council followed suit by adjusting the city's mask mandate to match the governor's current and future executive actions.
