The Portsmouth Office of the Commissioner of the Revenue received re-accreditation status from the Commissioners of the Revenue Association of Virginia. Accreditation is only achieved by Commissioner of the Revenue offices which have taken the extra steps to meet rigorous standards in continuing education, customer service, personnel and ethics policies, and fair and equitable assessment methods for taxes and property.

The Portsmouth office was one of the first in Virginia to receive initial accreditation and has maintained its annual accreditation status to date.

Accreditation ensures that the office continues to operate at the highest levels of professionalism, that equitable policies and methods are in place to ensure taxpayers are treated fairly, and that the office is up to date on state and local tax matters.
