Chances Of A White Christmas In Reston In 2018: Forecast
The prospects of a white Christmas in our area don't look great with a little more than a week to go.

RESTON, VA -- For those hoping for a white Christmas in Reston, unfortunately, the odds are once again pretty slim this year.
Precipitation has been plentiful this month, but cold temperatures have not been. That will continue this week, with temperatures warming up close to 60 on Friday, meaning the precipitation expected then will be in the form of more drenching rain.
Temperatures take a dive in time for Christmas, but it won't be cold enough or wet enough. The Weather Channel predicts a 10 percent chance of rain on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, with temperatures in the 30s and 40s -- too warm anyway to get any of the white stuff.

Much more precipitation may be on the way after Christmas, with potentially five straight days of showers Dec. 27-31, but once again the temperatures just won't cooperate, stubbornly sticking in the mid-40s.
This reflects a larger trend where snowfall totals in the D.C. area have stayed relatively constant for the peak months of January and February, but dropping in the bumper months of December and March. Experts say that is because overall temperatures are in a long-term warming trend.
