Fireworks Near Me: Reston's 4th Of July 2021

RESTON, VA — Coronavirus cases continue to drop across the country while the number of those who are fully vaccinated continues to rise, which means there is even more reason to celebrate this Independence Day. July 4 is almost here, so it's time to find out what Fourth of July fireworks and festivities are going on near you.

We have all the fireworks shows, parades and festivals happening in and around Reston so you can start planning now.

The National Weather Service (NWS) forecasts a chance of showers throughout this weekend, meaning many 4th of July events could be washed out, postponed, or canceled.

Independence Day will be mostly sunny with a 20 percent chance of precipitation and a high temperature near 83, according to NWS. It'll be a cool 66 degrees Sunday night, with partly cloudy skies. So, fireworks might still go off.

If fireworks are postponed on Sunday, weather is likely to improve on Monday. The NWS says it will be sunny with a high near 90 and a clear night for any fireworks that are pushed back from the day before.

Here are all the fireworks shows, parades and festivals happening in and around Reston, so you can start planning now:

What: Lake Fairfax Park Fireworks

Where: Fireworks return to Lake Fairfax Park, which is located at 1400 Lake Fairfax Drive in Reston.

When: The fireworks will be launched shortly after 9 p.m., on Saturday, July 3. Attendees are encouraged to arrive by 8 p.m., so that they will have time to park and find a place to view the fireworks.

Lake Fairfax Park will once again be hosting an Independence Day fireworks show, after canceling last year's event due to COVID-19 restrictions. This year, the event will take place on Saturday, July 3.

Advance tickets for the fireworks show are available for purchase online for $10 pe car through 11:59 p.m., on Friday, July 2. Day-of tickets may be purchased for $15 per car at the park.

For those wishing to make a day of it, Lake Fairfax Park will open at sunrise on Saturday, July 3, with various food trucks providing food and beverage throughout the day.

Visitors can take a dip in the Water Mine Family Swimmin’ Hole, which will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Since tickets for the water park typically sell out by 12 p.m., visitors are encouraged to buy tickets in advance.

What: 4th of July Fireworks

Where: Fireworks will be launched from Herndon Centennial Golf Course. Viewing is available at Bready Park, which is located at 814 Ferndale Ave.

When: Fireworks will begin at 9:30 p.m., on Sunday, July 4. Access to seating and parking at Beady Park will open at 8 p.m.

The Town of Herndon will once again be celebrating the 4th of July with fireworks, after canceling last year's event due to COVID-19 restrictions. No food concessions or entertainment are planned for this year's celebration.

Those coming to Bready Park are encouraged to maintain physical distancing during the fireworks and to wear a mask if they have not been vaccinated for COVID-19. All bags and coolers may be searched. No alcohol, glass containers, or personal fireworks, including sparklers, are permitted.

Motorists should expect road closures and detours throughout the Town of Herndon. Police will be closing Ferndale Avenue to through traffic from Vine Street to Barton Oaks Place once the parking lots are filled. The roads will stay closed until after the completion of the fireworks.

Alternate parking areas include Herndon Middle School, Herndon Centennial Golf Course, and the Station Street Municipal lot. Access to the golf course is restricted from 8-10:30 p.m., on July 4, on the order of the fire marshal.

What: Fireworks on the National Mall in D.C.

Where: Fireworks will be launched from both sides of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.

When: The 17-minute display will be held on Sunday, July 4 starting at 9:09 p.m.

To celebrate progress made in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, President Joe Biden is planning to celebrate the July Fourth holiday as “a summer of freedom.” He will be hosting 1,000 medical workers, first responders, essential workers and military members on the South Lawn of the White House for the National Mall fireworks.

The National Park Service said that consistent with CDC guidelines, people who are not fully vaccinated must wear masks indoors and in crowded outdoor spaces on the National Mall. Masks are required for everyone on all forms of public transportation. All the memorials, except the Washington Monument, will be open.

People visiting the National Mall for the fireworks should practice social or physical distancing, staying at least six feet away from others who are not a member of your household, according to the NPS.

You don't have to cross the river to view the fireworks. There are several places along the Potomac River to view the show, including the Air Force Memorial, Gravelly Point, Key Bridge, and the Marine Corps War Memorial (Iwo Jima) and Netherlands Carillon. To reach the last three viewing spots, take Metrorail to the Rosslyn station and walk south toward Arlington National Cemetery.

Where: The concert will be pre-recorded.

When: The 41st annual Capitol Fourth concert on PBS will be pre-recorded, with singer and actress Vanessa Williams serving as host of the event from D.C. The concert will include pre-recorded performances across the country by Jimmy Buffett, Gladys Knight, Alan Jackson, Jennifer Nettles, Renée Fleming and many other artists.

The National Symphony Orchestra will perform John Williams’ inspiring composition “Olympic Fanfare” in tribute to Team USA, honoring the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Teams as they prepare for the Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Capping off the concert broadcast on PBS will be live coverage of the fireworks display on the National Mall captured by multiple cameras stationed around the city.
