470 Reston Town Center Customers Still Without Gas: Updated

Columbia Gas of Virginia was working to restore natural gas to around 470 customers in Reston Friday evening.

UPDATED (1:20 p.m.): Around 470 Columbia Gas of Virginia customers in the Reston Town Center were still experiencing an outage of gas service Friday evening, according to a company alert.

Crews were on the scene working to repair a gas main damaged by a third party. Customers who live near the intersection of Market Street and St. Francis Street are the ones affected by the outage.

Once repairs are completed and service returns, workers will go door-to-door to conduct safety checks and relight gas appliances where necessary.

UPDATED (1:20 p.m.): Fairfax County Fire and Rescue reported the leaking gas line at Market and Explorer streets in Reston had been clamped by gas company work crews, according to a 1:20 p.m. post on the department's official Twitter account. No injuries were reported and fire units returned to service.

RESTON, VA — The Friday morning gas leak at Reston Town Center has been stabilized, according to a 11:51 a.m. post on Fairfax County Fire and Rescue's official Twitter account. All of the buildings that had been temporarily evacuated have been searched, with no gas being found in any of the buildings.

Fire units were called out before 10:45 am., to Market Street and Explorer Street at Reston Town Center, for the report of a leak in a 4-inch gas line. As a precaution, firefighters temporarily closed some streets and evacuated buildings in the area.

As of 11:51 a.m., the gas company estimated it would take a couple hours to secure the leak.
