John Craig Anderson of Alexandria, VA passed away on Thursday, March 17th, 2016. He was born on November 8th, 1967 in Washington, DC, the son of Joel Craig and Marlee Kochis Anderson. Craig was raised in Bethesda, MD by them, and in Reston, VA by Joel and by Craig's stepmother, Ellen Anderson. After graduating from Herndon High (Class of '86), he attended Old Dominion University, and later the University of Colorado, where he received a BA in Sociology. He lived in St. Croix, Virgin Islands, Boulder & Denver, CO, West Palm Beach, FL, Santa Barbara & Saratoga, CA, Richmond, VA, and Katy TX before moving back to Northern VA to be closer to his ailing dad.
Craig spent most of his life working at various restaurants, as well as assisting individuals. Indeed his whole life was defined by being of service to those around him, with joy, laughter, and support. His interests included basketball and other sports, good food, and music -- especially the Grateful Dead and other jam and classic rock bands. His happiest place was seeing live music with friends and loved ones.
Craig is survived by his brother Martin Anderson of Saluda, NC; his stepmother Ellen; his step siblings Kathy Laurini of Wassenar, The Netherlands, Daniel Cannon of Houston, TX, Mary Taylor of Ashburn, VA, Meg Cannon of Leesburg, VA, and Ed Cannon of Denver, CO; his niece Mara Zetta Anderson and eleven other loving nieces and nephews who loved their Uncle Craig; and so many friends who received the generosity and love he so willingly shared.
