Kids' Mighty Mile Run Kicks Off Saturday in Reston

The fun filled 1-mile race series is specifically designed for kids ages 6-14.

Potomac River Running will kick off its series of mile-long races for kids — dubbed The Mighty Mile — starting Saturday in Reston.

The fun filled 1-mile race series is specifically designed for kids ages 6-14, offering them the opportunity to challenge themselves to finish a mile, beat their time or race friends. Here’s a rundown of the upcoming dates and locations:

Each race in the series will hold the same time schedule. Race day will kick-off with the 12-14 year olds at 8 a.m., with each additional heat starting every 15 minutes.

Races are run by age-group heats. Due to the number of runners expected, no parent buddy runners are allowed. Organizers ask that adults please not enter your child in the race if she/he cannot run the 1 mile race unaccompanied.

If your child has special needs and cannot run unaccompanied, please email terri@potomacriverrunning.com.

Organizers will make special accommodations but parent/buddy runner will not be “registered” for the race in the same way the child is since the event is for children only.

RACE SCHEDULE:

8 a.m.: 12-14 year olds (1 mile)

8:15 a.m.: 10-11 year olds (1 mile)

8:30 a.m.: 8-9 year olds (1 mile)

8:45 a.m.: 6-7 year olds (1 mile)

9 a.m.: 4-5 year olds (approximately 1/2 mile)

9:15 a.m.: Tot Trot (approximately 100 yards)

SWAG: All race participants will receive a race T-shirt and all race finishers will receive a commemorative Mighty Mile race medal.

AWARDS: Following the final race, awards will be presented to the top three girls and boys finishers in each race (all tot trot finishers will receive a ribbon).

PHOTOS: FREE high resolution race photos will be available for download from the Potomac River Running Flickr page. Runners and families are asked to keep an eye out for the on-course/finish line photographer and be prepared to strike a pose. Organizers will send an email notifying you when the pictures are ready to be shared.

You must pick up your packet at one of the designated times. Packets will not be mailed after the race. In addition, awards must be claimed within two weeks of the conclusion of a race.
