LearningRx of Reston Va. Leads Award-Winning Job Shadow Program

Maureen Loftus, executive director of LearningRx of Vienna, Va., and Reston, Va. is leading the 8th annual Tysons Regional Chamber of Commerce (TRCC) job shadow program, in partnership with Fairfax County Public Schools, for more than 50 11th and 12th grade Fairfax County students. Students applied from James Madison High School, George C. Marshall High School, Marshall Academy and Oakton High School in Fairfax County, Va. Students can shadow professionals in more than 20 industries for one day from January through March 2020. For more information, go to www.learningrx.com.

Approximately 20 organizations are hosting students for a day, including: Freedom Bank of VA, Navy Federal Credit Union, Rees Broome, Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office, Cloudburst Security, Courtney Pierce Agency, STC Jiffy Lube, Enthuse Creative, Town of Vienna, Fairfax Water, CST Group CPAs PC, Convene, 1st Stage, Phillips Programs, Merritt Academy, Fooda, Impact Business Solutions LLC, Christina Rice Agency, Marriott, General Systems, VA House of Delegates and Vienna Animal Hospital.

“Our job shadow program is always popular with the students, as it provides hands-on experience in real world work environments,” said Maureen Loftus, executive director of LearningRx of Reston, Va. and Vienna, Va. and member of the Youth and Education Committee of the Tysons Regional Chamber of Commerce. “We’re always so grateful for the participation of our local businesses,” said Loftus.

Students that are interested the TRCC Job Shadow Program filled out an application to select their areas of career interests. For more details, go to www.tysonschamber.org.

The process for the students includes an orientation that provides training on ‘workplace 101’ which covers all of the basics of what is expected of students in the professional workplace.

Loftus has been a member of TRCC member for 10 years.
