Reston Hockey Player Named To US Olympic Team

Garrett Roe, who is from Vienna and played for the Reston Raiders, will compete for gold in PyeongChang.

RESTON, VA -- The full roster for the Team USA Olympic hockey team that will compete for gold in the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics in South Korea has been announced, and one of the players is from Vienna and played in Reston.

The Reston Raiders, a local hockey club, tweeted their congratulations to former player Garrett Roe for making the national team. The roster was unveiled during the second intermission of the NHL Winter Classic at Citi Field in New York City on New Year's Day.

In the past, NHL stars have represented their countries in the Olympics, but the NHL recently decided to ban their players from participating. As a result, lesser-known players like Roe have been given the opportunity to suit up for their countries.
