Reston Hospital Center Gets an 'A'

Reston Hospital Center has been awarded an “A” grade in the Fall 2013 update to the Hospital Safety Score, an improvement from a “B” grade in the Spring, the hospital announced. The letter rated score system represent how well hospitals protect patients from accidents, errors, injuries and infections.

The Hospital Safety Score is compiled under the guidance of the nation’s leading experts on patient safety from Harvard, Johns Hopkins, and Stanford University. It is annually administered by independent agency, The Leapfrog Group (Leapfrog).

It is the only peer-reviewed hospital grading system in the United States. This Blue Ribbon Expert Panel uses 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to produce a single “A,” “B,” “C,” “D,” or “F” score representing a hospital’s overall capacity to keep patients safe from preventable harm. The Hospital Safety Score is then published to give the public information they can use to select the appropriate healthcare facility for themselves and their families, said hospital spokeswoman Joanna Fazio.
