Reston Hospital Center Named Among Top 100 Hospitals In US

RESTON, VA — Reston Hospital Center was recently named one of the 2021 Fortune/IBM Watson Health 100 Top Hospitals in the country. Reston Hospital was one of the 19 medium-size hospitals to achieve this distinction this year.

Watson Health has been releasing its top 100 list for 26 years and this is the first time Reston Hospital has made it to the list.

Watson Health studies hospitals across the U.S. "to identify top performers and deliver insights that may help all healthcare organizations better focus their improvement initiatives on achieving consistent, balanced, and sustainable high performance."

Metrics for Watson Health's study of hospital performance include evaluating the quality of inpatient and extended care, operational efficiency, and financial health, as well as customer experience. When taken together, scores in these areas reflect the a facility's excellence of hospital care, management, and leadership.

Top performing hospital exhibited the following characteristics, according to the study:

• Had lower inpatient mortality, considering patient severity
• Had fewer patient complications
• Delivered care that resulted in fewer HAIs
• Had lower 30-day mortality and 30-day hospital-wide readmission rates
• Sent patients home sooner
• Provided faster emergency care
• Kept inpatient expenses low while still maintaining a healthy financial environment
• Scored higher on patient ratings of their overall hospital experience.
