RESTON, VA — Reston Hospital Center's new main entrance is just months away from opening, capping the end of a major renovation project as the hospital looks toward the future and the challenge of serving a booming region.

RHC spokesman Todd McGovern told Patch that the hospital was getting close to wrapping up a major rebuild that has been going on for the last couple of years. The main entrance to the campus, which has been closed for a while, will reopen sometime in the first quarter of 2020, and there will be a new patient visitor corridor to make navigation easier, he said.

Recently, the hospital opened a new 400-space parking garage, which has improved the parking situation there. And last spring, the hospital opened expanded services, a patient rehabilitation center, and a brand new intensive care unit, to name just a few improvements.

"Looking forward, we're doing some reinvestment in our cancer center," McGovern said, noting that there would be new upgraded technologies and other things added. The hospital just opened a unit for women who are pregnant but at a high risk and must stay at the hospital until they deliver.

No major renovation projects are on the horizon for Reston Hospital Center after this one wraps up, but that will certainly change in the coming years, particularly with booming development and a rapidly increasing population creating a challenge to fill the demand for the hospital's services.

"The community is growing around us," McGovern said. "There's certainly quite a bit of development along the Toll Road and Reston corridor. We've been doing our best to grow to meet the needs of the community."

Reston Hospital Center invested more than $40 million between 2012 and 2015 in the expansion, and then added another $72 million for the second phase in 2017. You can view a full description of the expansions at the Reston Hospital Center website.
