RESTON, VA — A registered sex offender was arrested after he tried to get into a Reston elementary school and stayed on school property even after being confronted, police say.

A "suspicious man" followed someone into Aldrin Elementary School at 11375 Center Harbor Road at around 3:54 p.m. on Thursday when he was confronted by a staff member, according to a report from the Fairfax County Police Department.

The man left the school but stayed on school property, the report states.

Police arrived and found 29-year-old Benjamin Garrett of D.C. walking away from the school, and determined he was a registered sex offender who was wanted on an outstanding warrant from another jurisdiction, according to the report.

He was arrested and charged with entering school property after a violent sex offense conviction. He is being held without bond.
