Latest: Snowy, Slushy Mess Will Impact Friday Morning Commute

The snow forecast has fallen a bit for most of the region, but road conditions are still expected to be hazardous Friday morning.

A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for the region from 10 p.m. Thursday until 10 a.m. Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

Forecasters expect around 1 inch of snow, with slightly more in southern Maryland.

"The snow will cause slushy and locally snow covered roads, resulting in hazardous travel conditions," according to the weather service statement.

The Virginia Department of Transportation was treating roads throughout the day Thursday, but continued to caution commuters to check their routes at 511virginia.org before heading out.

Snow will continue overnight, impacting the Friday morning commute before tapering off by midday.

Untreated roads may be snow covered Friday morning, according to the Capital Weather Gang, “especially in our colder areas north and west areas and those areas south and southeast of town where heavier snow may develop towards morning.”

Winds will gust up to 20 mph, with temperatures in the lower 30s.

The snow will head out to sea as it leaves the region, likely leaving most of the Northeast unscathed, according to the Weather Channel

Thursday Night: Snow. Low around 30. Southeast wind 6 to 8 mph becoming east after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Total nighttime snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.

Friday: A chance of snow before 9am. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 43. North wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
