Sprinting Through the Summer, RSTA Reaches Midpoint of Season

Heading into a break for the upcoming holiday weekend, RSTA has now completed three out of six dual meets for the 2021 summer season.

Saturday, June 26 marked the halfway point of the RSTA 2021 dual meet season. With three meets down, three more are yet to come! In the third meets of the season, team and league records continued to fall.

Two Glade Dolphins swimmers set new team records, Griffith Knowlton in the Boys 13-14 50m Backstroke and Lauren Wagner in the Girls 15-18 50 Breaststroke. Knowlton’s time of 37.05 seconds beat the record previously set in 2018 by 0.42 second. Wagner beat her own record, set two weeks earlier, by 0.37 second.

Katie Cazenas also beat her own team record for the North Hills Hurricanes, set the week prior, in the Girls 15-18 50m Backstroke by 0.28 second with a new time of 31.89 seconds. The North Hills Girls 15-18 200m Medley Relay team of Katie Cazenas, Ada Langston, Betty Yakobson, and Ella Wilson also set a new team record with a time of 2:15.06, topping the record previously set in 2011 by 2.50 seconds.

Meanwhile, the Lake Newport Lightning Boys 13-14 200m Medley Relay team of Christopher Ho, Henry Collins, Jason Tipler, and Michael Zhou set both a new team record and a new RSTA league record, finishing in 2:06.28. This beat the team record previously set in 2018 and league record previously set in 2016.
