St. Johns Wood Redevelopment Is Back On The Table In Reston

The controversial project had been deferred indefinitely by Bozzuto back in April, but it appears the developer is taking another shot.

RESTON, VA — It's the project that just won't die, even though many Reston residents wish it would. St. Johns Wood was tabled indefinitely back in April in the face of a large amount of community opposition, but developer Bozzuto isn't giving up on it, and the Reston Assocation's Design Review Board will meet with the developer Tuesday evening to talk about it.

The discussion is scheduled for 6 p.m. July 25 at the conference center at 120001 Sunrise Valley Drive, according to a draft agenda, meaning it will happen before the board's meeting kicks off at 7 p.m.

Bozzuto is proposing to build 481 multifamily units in two buildings in North Point, but many locals are opposed to what they see as a potentially disruptive new development in a quiet neighborhood. A petition opposing the development had 826 signatures as of Tuesday morning.

"The work sessions are an opportunity for the Design Review Board members and the applicants to discuss and suggest revisions to a set of proposed plan," RA spokesman Mike Leone said in an emailed statement. "Unlike the full DRB board meetings, it is an informational meeting that allows everyone to ‘roll their up their sleeves’ and work together on ideas. The Design Review Board does not render any decisions at these sessions; therefore, no minutes are taken. The applicant does provide notice to the adjacent property owners and affected parties, so the work sessions are held as an open meeting so members can observe the sharing of new ideas and plans."
