Tall Oaks Village Center is About to Meet Its End [VIDEO]

The Fairfax County Planning Commission has just recommended that a plan to change it to a residential space be approved.

The end of the Tall Oaks Village Center is nigh.

The Jefferson Apartment Group has swooped in to save the failing retail center and turn it into a primarily residential space, and the Fairfax County Planning Commission just recommended the proposal for approval this past week.

JAG plans to completely change the Tall Oaks Village Center from an area that was getting eaten up by stiff competition from other area village centers into a mostly residential space including 156 homes, 8,5000 square feet of retail space and about 6,000 square feet of office space.

The decision had been deferred previously, but last week the commission signed off on it, and now it goes before the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors for final approval July 26.

The retail center at 12000 North Shore Drive has struggled with a vacancy rate of 86 percent, and has been unable to fill the huge supermarket void left by Giant years ago, according to a Washington Business Journal report and the Reston Association website.
