Reston Murder Suspect's Mom Says She Missed Warning Signs: Report
The 17-year-old has been labeled a neo-Nazi, but his mother told the Washington Post that he has struggled with emotional problems.

RESTON, VA — A 17-year-old boy accused of killing the parents of his ex-girlfriend in December has been branded a neo-Nazi and white supremacist. But his mother told the Washington Post that the teen has struggled for years with mental health issues, and that she blames herself for failing to prevent the shootings of Scott Fricker, 48, and Buckley Kuhn-Fricker, 43, in their Reston home.
In a Tuesday story in the Washington Post, the Lorton woman spoke publicly for the first time about the tragedy, which happened a few days before Christmas. The newspaper did not release the names of the teenager or his mother, in accordance with its policy to not name juveniles charged with crimes, unless they are charged as adults.
The teen's mother told the Post that she did not discover the full extent of her son's interest in white supremacy until after the Dec. 22 shootings. She found a Twitter account that he apparently maintained "that espoused hatred of Jews and gays, praised Adolf Hitler and endorsed a neo-Nazi group linked to multiple murders," the Post reported.

Those beliefs pushed the Frickers to end the relationship between the teenager and their daughter. Days before the shootings, the girl's mother emailed the administrator of the boy's school, calling him an “outspoken Neo Nazi," the Post reported.
On the night of the killings, the 17-year-old shot himself in the head but survived, say media reports. He has recovered enough to be transferred to Fairfax County's juvenile detention center, the Post reported, and court hearings are being held to determine whether he's competent to stand trial.
