Tornado Struck Reston Town Center: NWS
The tornado that touched down in Fairfax County last week apparently rolled right along the edge of Reston Town Center.

RESTON, VA -- Friday's tornado apparently hit the edge of Reston Town Center, according to the National Weather Service.
The NWS completed its survey of the tornado in Reston and found that it started in south Reston near Fox Mill Road. From there, it knocked down a few trees, crossed over the Dulles Toll Road and then rolled through the western edge of Reston Town Center. After that, it destroyed an outdoor shed in the area of Baron Cameron Avenue and then finally dissipated on the north end of Reston near Wiehle Avenue.
It was a weak tornado, rated at EF-0, and it achieved a maximum wind speed of 70 miles per hour with a maximum path width of 100 yards, NWS reported. It touched down at 8:55 p.m. and traveled four miles in about five minutes, causing no injuries or fatalities.

Trees were reported down in the area of Fox Mill Road and Pinecrest Road, and a few trees were toppled along Glade Drive near Rosedown Drive.
The tornado tracked across Reston Hospital Center "with no visible signs of damage," but there was damage reported at Town Center Drive near Town Center Parkway where a tree, fencing, and shingles from townhouses had been blown down.

The tornado destroyed an outdoor shed just east of Trader Joe's, and a tall tree crashed through the upper floor of a townhouse on Quietree Drive, which resulted in local officials condemning the property.
One large, 100-foot tree smashed into the front end of an unoccupied vehicle parked along Center Harbor Road.
"THE SURVEY TEAM ALSO SURVEYED MORE STORM DAMAGE EXTENDING TO THE EAST OF THE TORNADO TRACK PRIMARILY JUST EAST AND PARALLELING RESTON AVENUE. THIS DAMAGE CONSISTED OF TREES BLOWN DOWN OR TOPPED," the report stated. "THE TEAM CONCLUDED THAT STRONG STRAIGHT LINE WINDS PRODUCED DAMAGE HERE, WITH TWO LARGE TREES FALLING ON FORT LEE STREET, ONE OF WHICH FELL ON A HOUSE."
